Sydney Thomashow is an artist interested in the fiction that intersects daily life. Her photographs present an invented culture, one that resolves the polar environments she’s grown up in. This rural fantasy is both violent and beautiful, referencing a narrative of growth, nature, and relationships. The compositions are focused on creating surreal scenarios that are convincing for their emotional qualities. The images entice the viewer to be trusting, despite the natural impulse of disbelief. Shadows are missing; people and animals are multiplied. The photographs are lies that provoke further reverie in the audience.

When not making art, Sydney is creating work for Google as the Global Head of Payments Marketing. She resides in Brooklyn with her family.
